Football Family

It’s 5am Sunday morning. Milky May sunlight floods the kitchen. Hero dog’s gentle rhythmic snores are hypnotic. I’m sipping on a cappuccino looking out of the window soaking up life. It’s a beautiful morning . I look up at the sky as I do most mornings. I give thanks, to whoever is responsible for keeping me here, it’s not exclusive. I start with “my god“, I’m 40, still not sure how I feel about religion etc, I go to your god, then all gods. I’m settling with “source” so I thank the giver of life every morning that I open my eyes. Every day is precious not just for me for us all. We’re only ever renting space here on Earth. Imma try be a good tenant. We’re just back from a night in Sheffield. Big G was invited to play in a Doncaster Rovers v’s Sheffield Wednesday legends game Down in Donnie. What a lovely weekend we had. Back to our old stomping ground. What was really nice was for the kids to see their hero (daddy) on the pitch ! His playing career was before their time so it was lovely for them to experience that. we saw old friends (well the Hamshaw‘s are like family to us) team mates, reminisced, laughed, rejoiced (Big G sank a penna! ) it was just like old times. The game was in aid of a fantastic Charity Eves Trust ( a local Doncaster cancer charity) The game also highlighted our situation & we gained maximum exposure for brain tumour( cancer) awareness, hopefully.

The atmosphere was electric, there were goals for fun ( 12 before penalties! ) Big G played minutes for both teams. Honoring his years at both Wednesday & Donnie respectively. What a way to bring in your 43rd birthday Baz! and you still look good in a kit 😉

I felt very proud of my G & all he has achieved , and to do it with such grace & humility. I know he loved playing Football but I know his passion now lies in becoming a first team manager & I’m ready to support that all the way.

Football is a funny old game, theirs ups & downs & constant uncertainty. But yesterday confirmed one thing to me #footballfamily is a “thing“ & I’m happy to have experienced being part of it.

Thanks for the support Doncaster Rovers Fc your a class Act.

Enjoy this glorious sunshine. Happy bank holiday.
